A Dandy #1 has been sold at auction for 2300.00 but this was without the free gift. Due to the quality of the paper used in the early editions of The Dandy mint condition issues are unknown. There are only 30-40 #1 issues left in circulation.

Did you know that desperate dan started to go on the front cover on 1984 november 14th? - Daniel

Became "Dandy Xtreme" in 2006 or 7. More of a magazine-like publication with only a few comic strips. Desperate Dan doesn't even show up in every single issue any more. It's 70th anniversary went almost unnoticed, and was not even mentioned in the comic. Stories about Desperate Dan "not having a gun" and "not being allowed to eat cow pies in case it offends Muslims" (Actually it's Hindus that regard Cows as sacred. Muslims can munch as much McDonalds as they want as long as it's Halal) are pure fiction, invented by tabloid writers who haven't even opened an issue since the 60's. - Michael Martin

I noticed that , 'Michael Martin' had wrote that he was unsure of when The Dandy changed it's name to The Dandy Xtreme. I can confirm, that it changed in August 2007, issue no. 3426. The price of the comic now changes quite often. Last I knew, it was 2.75, but they would occasionally charge 2.99 if there were more gifts with it. This is one of the reasons I stopped buying it, as it seems pointless getting gifts with the comic which are no longer 'free gifts. I am sure many of the people looking on this site will understand.
Finally, an interesting point for you all. You may have noticed that The Dandy Xtreme is now less a comic, and more a childrens magazine, as there are less pages of actual comic strips (the other reason I stopped buying it). Earlier today, I was on the Dandy Xtreme website, when I stumbled across their 'Poll Question Of The Week'. They were asking what people would want to see more of in The Dandy Xtreme. I decided to put 'Comics', and was not suprised that when the totals came up, I saw that from 10 possible answers, 45% of people had voted the same as myself. Hopefully this will make DC Thomson think a little. - Lewis Delderfield

I was not at all surprised when it was announced that the Dandy would cease publication on its 75th birthday issue. The artwork and stories were like they'd been done by nursery children. Compared to the Beano it was vastly inferior. I hope the Beano editors take note and do NOT fill it with parody stories like "fart wars". - Antony Ridden
