Fleetway

Died 8/05/1965

Hurricane was first published by Fleetway on the 19th February 1964 and ran for 63 un-numbered issues before ending on 8th May 1965 and then joining Tiger.

The free gift with issue 1 was a T.S.R.2 Flying Model and both together would be worth around £35 - £40 today.

Highborough United as a friendly gesture took on a group of gypsies at football, being professionals it was an easy game until Raven came onto the pitch and turned fortunes around. Originally he was a script character from The Wizard I think, but in the Hurricane it was illustrated. Raven in the pictures was a close clone of George Best to his inventive play to his long black locks. He signed on to Highborough but in his first International with them he did not play up to promise, it transpired he had family in the country, and one of them was in trouble, his team mates investigated, resolved the situation before the second half. The boy football wizard clawed back the score, the opposition started to play rough against him, but he then played as part of the team instead of a one- teenager prodigy to beat them. - Brenda Olford
