Lion managed to survive for quite awhile by changing with the times. Have a look at the Lion from 1973 in the Bibliography section to see how the front cover changed in the seventies.

Over it's lifespan it  teamed up with 'Lion and Sun' in 1959, 'Lion and Champion' in 1966, 'Lion and Eagle' in 1969 and 'Lion and Thunder' in 1971

I was a regular reader of Lion from the time it became Lion and Thunder. I seem to remember it ending up being taken over by Valiant, I remember only a couple of stories surviving the takeover. - David Dunnico

I was browsing the web and came across your very excellent site - well done and very informative. My late father W.R. Bunn was the illustrater for Fleetway Publications during the 50s and 60s and I remember he 'drew' the main features of, in the 50s, Rory MacDuff (and Barney Lomax) and in the 60s it was 'Spider' an American style superhero. On other occasions he undertook 'Zip Nolan' and also 'Spellbinder'. He died in 1971 after a long illness. I confess to wishing I had paid more attention to his work as I have precious little of it today. But it was just an ordinary routine to see him work in his studio at home sometimes for 17 hours a day to complete the weekly issue. He actually went insane and that was the illness mentioned earlier. It is very nice to see someone making the effort to keep these comics from being a lost memory. My father would have been very pleased to see your site - thankyou. - Trevor Bunn
