Pow No.1, which you can see in the Bibliography section, would be worth around £65 today. That is of course if you have a near mint condition copy with the free gift, a 'Spider-Matic Gun and ammo'.

Wham joined Pow in issue 53 and they both joined 'Smash' in September 1968.

The artist of "The Cloak" signed the strips simply as "Mik". His real name is Mike Higgs, who later drew "Space School" for Whizzer and Chips, and "Thundercap" for Buster. He also created the popular newspaper strips "Moonbird" (various regional papers and some overseas papers) and "Baz and Co." for The Mirror. I worked as his assistant in 1983/84 - a great opportunity for a cartoonist starting out, as I was then. - Lew Stringer

Was Mike Higgs who drew the Cloak the same Mike Higgs who edited the Dan Dare books? Clive Huggett

POW! Annual 1972 - A lot of people are confused by the one-off action character strips such as MAGNO,AQUAVENGER,et al. They appeared in the annual but never the comic. The story behind their creation by Philip Hebden is long and convoluted and though the strips were drawn mainly by a Spanish studio one strip was drawn by John Britton who I worked with on PHOENIX TEAM in 1986. Hebden sold me the rights in the 1980s after he had left the comic industry in disgust. A watered down version of the story will appear in my mag COMIC BITS in the new year (2003). - Terry Hooper BTCG
