Scramble had mostly boy's stories with very few comic strips until May 1949 when the middle pages were turned over to 4 comic strips, "Ozzy The Wiz", being the most popular.

Scramble poses a few problems for collectors. The first 6 issues give a sub-title as "formerly Fresh Fun" which was another of G.G.Swan's comics. However, Fresh Fun continued to be published until 1951.Scramble was published from March 1947 until Aug. 1950 for 57 issues.Another puzzle is no.13 was never published making some readers think that they had missed an issue.No.12 was dated April 1948 followed by no.14 May 1948. Apparently Gerald G. Swan was a superstitious guy. Early numbers had a two page picture story in the centre and cartoons on the back page. However with no.10 this format was changed to an all-story boy's paper. Also the sub-title "formerly Fresh Fun" returned with the May 1948 issue. Throughout it's life, the two main characters were "Ozzy the Wiz" and "Martin Speed- Detective". Both of these began from no.1 and sometimes appeared in one long adventure taking over the entire 16 pages. Scramble had a sister paper; "Girl's Fun" which incorporated War Comics; Thrill Comics and Kiddyfun. But that's another story. Thanks for your excellent site. It is a big help to we ever curious collectors. - Dr.Derek Knight-Messenger, Canada.
