DIED - 1980

Tornado only ran for a very short time in 1979 before being swallowed up by 2000AD, although the annual is dated 1980 it was released for the 1979/80 year.

The Editorial came from the 'Big E' a 'super-editor', seen here catching a bank robber by using his amazing strength. Dressed up in the 'Big E' suit is Dave Gibbons a comic artist known for his work on 2000AD and he also drew the Hulk in the weekly Hulk Comic from Marvel.

I picked up the first issue of Tornado when it came out and I think I bought all the issues until it merged with 2000 AD, another favorite of mine. The only memory I have of Tornado (contrary to my multiple memories of Action and Battle - the best two comics ever!) is the freebie that came with the first issue - a red round plastic gadget shaped roughly like a flying saucer. It consisted only of a ring joined by two cross-bars (an "x"). I regret to say I cannot remember one story from the comic. - Unitdoctor

It is generally acknowledged by fans of Sexton Blake (published in various forms from 1893 to 1969) that Victor Drago was a re-packaged Blake. His car registration was even SB209! - Michael Martin
